When managers decide to help their
employees develop their communication skills, they usually ask themselves two things:
"How do my people come across to
one another?"
"How well do they handle conflict?"
They know that for their staffs to enhance their communication
effectiveness, they must understand their personal styles, with their plusses and minuses, and hone their "people
skills," especially in conflict.
At Communication Excellence Institute, we have
developed a special seminar to address employees' communication styles and
methods for handling conflict.
In the first session, "What Makes You
Tick?", we lead participants to:
- Understand their distinct communication styles
as measured by the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator™.
- Apply the results of this instrument to actual
communication challenges they face every day.
- Learn to "read" body language and
attitudes of other people and to adjust their own verbal and nonverbal
communication to the situation.
In the second session, "What Ticks You Off?", we help participants to:
- Discover their preferred ways of dealing with
conflict, as measured on the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument™.
- Develop sharper listening behaviors and an
openness to others' ideas.
- Give and take criticism without resentment.
The course is based on solid research in
communication theory and practice, and involves each participant in an
interactive "hands-on" learning experience.
Organizations that have offered this course
comment that participants improved their interpersonal relationships and
significantly reduced the intensity and frequency of conflict within their teams
and in the organization as a whole.
The fee for What Makes You Tick? What Ticks
You Off? Effective Communication in the Workplace is $3,950, plus the cost
of any copyrighted instruments used, for a full day for up to 20 participants.
Additional participants beyond 20 are $100 each.
